Recurring tonsillitis in a 7 year old

My DS has had tonsillitis 4 times since June. I have taken him to the GP 3 times and he has had a course of penicillin each time times. He is now ill again with headaches, slightly raised temperature, a tummy ache, lethargic and a sore throat. His tonsils have white spots on them.

The GP will probably prescribe yet another course of antibiotics. Is this the best route? What else can I do? How many bouts do children have before surgery is recommended and any other advice?

A lot of school is being missed and my work is now getting funny about the time I am having to keep taking off. Help!

I'm afraid I suffered from the age of 6 til I was 25 I changed my gp and had the tonsils out within 6 weeks of changing gp. I would give your Dr a bit of an ultimatum your ds needs them out if its re occurring this often. Or change gp? Can you see a health visitor about it get it noted or different Dr at the practice? Antibiotics only work for so long til the body becomes immune to them. Hope you progress with this op its no fun having tonsilitus all the time hood luck Flowers
