he has had some sort of tummy bug - is my guess - for a week now. has permanent tummy ache - round belly button. if he eats anything he gets cramps after about 1/2 hour & throws it all up. took him to dr yesterday. she felt his tummy - no signs of constipation or appendix. all he wants to do is sleep = slept for 13 hours last night & has been asleep since 6 pm today. doesn't want to watch tv, read or do anything.
DH thinks I am overeacting - I can see he has lost his sparkle &want to go back to DR but don't know what to ask them to do - antibiotics?
I'm so worried about him - please help!

Please go back to the dr. Wonder if it could be some sort of blockage or possibily diverticular disease?

Do the "I know my child there is something wrong"

Follow your instincts-def go back to dr asap. I find nhs symptom checker really helpful when I'm unsure. Repeat everything you've said here very loudly:no tv for a week/consatant pain/no food... if no joy ask to see another dr.

BumbleChum · 28/08/2013 23:05

Coeliac disease?a simple blood test.

mmmmsleep · 28/08/2013 23:07

poor you! does he have diarrhoea or harder poos? is he keeping fluids down? any temperature? any one else sick in family/contacts? a week of vomiting and abdo pain is getting on a bit. your dr might want to do a poo test for bugs if diarrhoea or blood test if continues. you're his mum and if you feel he's not well go back. things change with children and your dr would want to feel his tummy again and check his pulse and for dehydration signs.
tell the dr about his xs sleeping as well as how much food& fluids he's keeping down. how often is he passing urine?

do go. You're clearly worried and no good gp would begrudge seeing your son to check him over.
hope he gets better soon!

zebrafinch · 28/08/2013 23:13

Trust your instincts and get him checked out again.

Do you have a kids hospital nearby? If so I'd go to a & e.

newmum001 · 29/08/2013 08:03

My dd had similar symptoms a couple of months ago, I had 2 phone consultations with a doctor and an appointment. Kept being told it was a stomach bug and to make sure she was drinking plenty. I got really worried when she'd had it for about 6 days and took her to a&e. I felt really stupid when she made a miraculous recovery in the waiting room and started climbing on chairs and running around but the nurse said its always better to go if you're worried even if its only for your own piece of mind. I'd take him back to the doctors or to a&e as many times as you think is necessary until your confident that he's been properly checked out.

mmmmsleep · 29/08/2013 08:59

hi if he's vomiting lots then you should try to get dioralyte down him to rehydrate. good luck it tastes foul but necessary! just in case anyone tells you unfortunately flat coke has not been same as rehydration concentration since the 60s so off the more tasty menu :-( hope your ds recovers today!

Thank you again. Do you know, NEwmum, after another 13 hour sleep today he has eaten so far 1/2 a banana, 1 piece if toast, a big bowl of cornflakes, a piece of shortbread, a chicken sandwich & some apple - on bouncy making up for lost time. He says his stomach still hurts but I think that is sore muscles from the retching. I'm hoping this means we have turned the corner & he is on the mend. It has all stayed in so far so I think I will cancel dr for today & keep my fingers crossed!!

Good news that he's feeling better and starting to eat again Smile

allotmentgirl82 · 31/08/2013 12:40

Maybe he has a hernia under his belly button, this would explain the pain and being sick

newmum001 · 01/09/2013 22:50

So glad he's feeling better Smile
