Can't get 17mo to take ABs

DD is 17 months and just prescribed co-amoxyclav for ear/throat infection which has caused an horrendous temperature for the last 24 hours.

I can get her to take calpol/profen by syringe (we're alternating every 3 hours) but she will not take the ABs - so far she's spat 10ml (2 doses worth). I'm going to be out of medicine before she's finished the course!

She's off her food so in the last 36 hours she's basically had milk, a couple of yogurts and a couple of spoonfuls of baked beans - didn't want to start mixing with food in case that caused more wastage. Any ideas?

Have you tried bribing with sweets. we used to get the medicine on a spoon, instead of the syringe and have a chocolate button waving in front of them and told them as soon as they took the medicine they got a lovely sweet - hard when they are ill I know, but my 2 used to hate the syringe, but would be ok with the spoon.

Lie her on your arms, tightly, and syringe into the back corner of her mouth. Unpleasant, but she won't be able to spit it out.

Thanks - I've tried that but she somehow blocks the back of her throat with her tongue and pushes it out - last night when she was refusing calpol we tried that and it triggered her gag reflex and she vomited.

Tried mixing with a little of her favourite yogurt, got about 2 out of 5 ml in before she flat refused. She's too young to understand the chocolate button bribery.

Have now wasted another half dose on these efforts, starting to get worried about it Sad
