Did not know where to post so I thought I would start here !

Ds3 is under Pead for various things including his low Vit d levels...he was on 19 then after some drops went up to 35.

Awaiting new results ..but I have a quick question ?

Last year we went to Spain (in August) and all 3 boys were on SF30 ...after a few days the other 2 had the lines where their shorts were a little white bums !!!! not burnt but a division . ds3 had no line ever !! Even after 10 days !!!

Is there a connection between Vit d and no tan ....not that I want him to be a "Benidorm " colour sort of thing.......but do you think he is absorbing nothing ???

I have got a telephone appointment later with Gp as I was going to ask for Vit d to be done before we go and when we come back from 8 days in Spain(we go next week ) to see how much it would go up ....

Am I totally off the mark here in my medical knowledge ????

Thanks

i dont know, but i do know that

you cant get vit d while wearing suncream

and apparently white untanned skin is better for making vit d than tanned skin, so if trying to get vit d via sunshine you are best off exposing nice white tummy/back/other white bits for 15 mins

maybe there is a problem converting it from sun to d3? i guess the specialist should know more. i dont think -i convert it well, but i get a great tan! or is he losing receptors eg with protein loss in wee(this would be a condition your gp would have told you about! dont worry if not already mentioned). i would ask the gp why they think his vit d is so low.

his vit d is still far too low though at 35, wont it go higher?

do you supplement year round? once a vit d deficiency is found, usually you need to supplement all year. i get mine tested about october time so i know what levels i am heading into winter with

really no expert, just a fellow sufferer so hth
