Sound like Asthma?

DD (7) had 'flu at start of year and complained of tight chest and finding it hard to breath. Since then she has occasionally said the same thing but I hadn't thought much of it (thought it was a no-school excuse as she has had friend problems), until we went on holiday a couple of weeks ago.

Nearly every time we went in the swimming pool she would complain of a tight chest and finding it a bit hard to breath. Once she said it was her throat and chest and she lay down in the shade for over an hour very quietly. After that we kept a closer eye on her and limited time at the pool.

She mentions feeling tight chested mostly in the evenings and mornings, but has no cough or wheeze. She has very mild ezcema.

Sounds very much like asthma to me, I would make an appointment at your GP

Thanks. Took her to gp today and we are doing a peak flow diary for 10 days. Her peak flow today is just under 200, is that average for her age?

You can find peak flow calculators on the web, e.g. here, scroll down. Did your GP give any indication of what the expected peak flow would be?

Depends how tall she is. Ds is about 200 which is fine, he's 6 and 127cm

Thanks, she is the same height as your Ds Bea. I was feeling less worried after GP said she didnt' think it was asthma and her PF seemed ok, but this week she has had a swimming crash course and her PF has dropped to 160 morning and evening (it was dropping to this in the morning before) and she has had a lot more tight chest and throat. Today at swimming she was miming to me that her throat felt tight after just 15mins of swimming so I sat her out on the side for a while.

I've made another gp appointment, for after her last swimming session tomorrow. I am still really hoping she doesn't have asthma.. but well, something is going on.
