Dd is 6 months started weaning couple of weeks ago up until then she was EBF since then been eating baby rice made with formula, and after 1st week veg at lunch and dinner.
She's been constipated for 2 days, had a couple of tiny rock hard poo's today been hurting her lots and she's thrown up her lunch :( called nhs direct and spoke to ooh dr basically said to go to gp Tomo in meantime cycle legs, rub tum and give cooled boiled water all if which I've been trying for 2 days- dd wont drink water.
Any other advice of what might work?! She's been fine but this afternoon it's clearly hurting her :(

I think constipation is quite common in this age group. I remember my DS would occasionally go a week before producing anything. Dr's weren't that concerned but prescribed laxatives. I used to do a LOT of leg cycling and holding up of legs whilst he pushed! He was never sick though or had any pain apart from some discomfort when trying.

Stop giving solids until she has gone or you've seen the doc. Diluted pure apple juice can help, if she won't drink from a cup, you can syringe it in like medicine.

We had same problem this week GP laughed at me for bringing him!

Finally got him to drink almost a whole sippy cup of orange juice diluted with water and that did the trick.

Kiwi fruit - works a treat. Or I gave DS califig syrup at same age. I hear prune juice works v well too x

Stop the solids and bfeed as often as you can for a few days to clear the really solid poo out. Baby rice is rubbish and had nothing nutritious in it, it's basically a tummy filler and it's probably that which has caused the constipation. Replace with a tiny bit of porridge with fruit purree in it, I'd only give solids once a day for the first month or so, you can build up to three meals a day by 12 months. Too much solid food will bung them up as their gut is only used to passing a liquid diet, it's easily overloaded.

Gently raising the knees to the chin repeatedly can help get things moving and get some trapped wind out. The most important thing is to keep lots of fluid going in.

Hope she is feeling better soon, it's horrible to see them so uncomfortable x

Yes we stopped solids until pooed again. Especially in this warm weather where they need more drinks anyway.
I would also stop or at least reduce the baby rice. Rice can bung you up!!!

Put a dash of fresh orange juice in the water and this helps get this going...

Thanks all good advice think you're all right and baby rice is the culprit :( will take her to see dr Tomo and will hold off any solid feeds to see what dr says

If you are still breasfeeding then eat lots of prunes/prune juice/dries apricots etc as it does help the baby to poo
