Does anyone else's child have/had 'shark teeth'?

Just had a Google and this is apparently a common term for this dental problem!

My dd has a very wobbly tooth. She is 5yo and hasn't lost any baby teeth yet.

This morning i noticed a brand new spanking tooth stick up further back from her wobbly one. Quite a big gap between them. Here's a picture similar to my dd's mouth. www.frankhodgesdds.com/images/faq-tooth.jpg

Anyway, i rushed her to the dentist this afternoon thinking it was an emergency. The nurse at reception told me it's very common and dd has an appointment in a fortnight.

What i want to know is...

Will her adult tooth move forward into its normal position once the wobbly baby tooth eventually falls out?

Will all of her other adult teeth grow in this way?

DD seems very pleased with it and has eaten about 5 apples today to try and make her baby tooth fall out nothing to do with wanting the tooth fairy to visit of course but it's still stuck. I reckon it'll be out tomorrow or the next day though.

Anyway, any experiences of this would be greatly appreciated.

2 of my boys had shark teeth with no problems.

I had those. Perfectly normal now.

Ds (6) has this his baby tooth has been wobbling for months

My dd had a few come up from behind her baby teeth and i know a boy who had two rows of teeth at one stage. They baby ones all fell out of their own accord.

DD(10) had this with baby tooth behind new big tooth. Baby tooth only came out a few months ago after about 4 years and was tiny.

DS (7) has it the other way round - baby tooth at the front, big tooth quite a long way back. Did have an accident at about 2 that caused this baby tooth to go grey so bit concerned that it damaged the adult tooth but will see what dentist says in few weeks. DS delighted to have 'shark's tooth' like DD. Didn't know that was the official term, thought we were being wittily original :)

I had them. My teeth are all straight now :) Didn't need braces or anything.

DS1 had this. He was on his way to a double set of teeth at one point. All ok now. He does have braces but completely unrelated.

I had them (& braces but would have needed braces anyway so shark teeth wasn't a problem), ds2 had a complete row of shark teeth and still has one double set (he's 8) but the other teeth have or are moving into position. It is a normal occurrence and nothing to worry about, if your dc needs braces later on then it's a case of so be it as there's nothing you can do now to prevent that.. (sadly!)
