CMPI ds just turned one

DS is CMPI. He's just turned one and until now I've been dairy free too as have been BF him. I really want to stop BF him now (and eat cheese and chocolate again) and was wondering what milk alternative to give him. He's had some almond milk enriched with vit D and calcium and seems to like that. Is there any reason why he shouldn't drink that before bed and on his cereal in the morning? Am asking on here as my DR is a bit vague.

Hi.
We used Oatly milk for DS2 and DS3 for CMPI. The non organic one has calcium added to it, and is very palatable.
I personally would avoid almond milk if carrageenan is included in the ingredients, as there is a bit of controversy about its safety.

Thanks NSS. Tried oatly on DS tonight on another MNer's recommendation and he seemed to like it, so will stick to that for now Smile

Have you seen a dietician about his diet?

Oatly, soya etc are not really suitable as a main drink until age 2 as they are not as good nutritionally as cow's milk which most 1 year olds will move on to age 1.

You could try the Alpro soya 1+ milk which is specially designed for this purpose or the other alternative is a hypoallergenic formula.

DD2 has Oatley on her cereal and as a drink but I breast fed her until she was 2.5. Consultant didn't seem to think it was necessary for me to go dairy free.

Tests last year showed a reduced reaction to CMP and she is due for re testing next month. I avoided nut based milks as consultant said she was more likely to also be allergic to nuts so thought it best to avoid.
