Hand, Foot and Mouth, what helps the itching?

Ds is 20 months old and has been diagnosed with Hand, Foot and Mouth. The pediatrician has prescribed an antihistamine syrup to be taken every 8 hours, but he took it 4 hours ago (and slept 3 of those) and is itching quite badly again, specially around the hands, feet, knees and elbows.

Is there anything I can do to help the itching? A cool bath maybe?

TIA

When I had it last year it felt like pins and needles. Perhaps some calomine (sp?) lotion will help?
Hope he's better soon

Thank you whattoooooodo. I got something similar to calamine from the pharmacy and it seems to have helped a bit. Hopefully it will be gone soon, it makes me itch just to look at him!
