My ds is completely covered with very angry looking, very red chicken pox! They started coming out slowly on Thursday but then they got awful on Saturday and they are still coming out!!! He's been scratching some of them and don't know what else to do??? He's had calpol, calprofen, piriton, he's having calamine cream on every hour but nothing seems to be working! He's getting upset when I put him in a cool bath too.
I'm also a bit concerned because the ones he's scratched look really sore and "not right". The medicine isn't getting his temp down either!

Is this all normal or should I take him to the doctors to be on the safe side? Any other advice much my appriciated!!

Tia!!

I would always err on the side of caution with CP. If the spots are infected, he will need antibiotics. On very rare occasions, CP can be serious and necessitate hospital admission.

I would phone your GP and ask for advice. Maybe they could pay a home visit or have you come in when there are no others waiting. If it is normal CP and it started on Thursday, he should start to feel better pretty soon.

Contrary to what someone said on the other CP thread, although CP is viral, there are antivirals which can treat it. These are only used in very serious cases and in a hospital setting. Don't underestimate any of the herpes family. They are normally mild but can cause huge misery occasionally.
