Pooey Nappies Damaging Skin on Bottom

DS1 used to get these when he was teething, on the odd occasion it used to make the skin bleed a little.

But DS2 is 22 months and has all his teeth bar the very back ones and for three weeks now he has had these really awful nappies which are making his bottom so sore that it is sometimes bleeding a little in patches. He can be ok for a couple of days, then it will happen again and take a few days to heal, cause even though I smother the cream on, every time he poo's again it aggravates it a little.

Just wondered if anyone knew what can sometimes cause it and if it's even worth going to Docs?

What cream are you using? I found Metanium to be the best for healing bad nappy rash. Try and let him go without a nappy as much as possible, fresh air will help it.

If that does not work then of course go to the GP. He may have got a fungal infection, eczema or something else.

Yeah I think Metanium is best and sometimes use that as a base and Bepanthen on top. (Doc once said one layer for the skin and one layer for the nappy, and I have found that works well). It clears up without a problem really, it's more that I wonder what is in his poo that is causing it to do the damage.

It's a chemical reaction between the bacteria in the poo and the ammonia in the urine.

Try and change a pooey nappy as soon as possible so the skin is exposed for as little time as possible.

Thanks Stargirl. Weirdly the worst ones don't seem to have much of a smell so I am not sure if we are catching them as early as I would like or not.
