3 week old - bright red blood in sick

Hi,

My 3 week old DD has had two vomits today straight after a feed with a small amount of bright red blood in it. Should I be worried? She has been feeding well although her latch isn't great and my nipples are very sore although there are no signs of damage or crevasses.
She is quite hard to settle after a feed and very unsettled from around 8pm to Midnight every night. Today she squirms and arches her back if I put her down in her Moses basket and only seems to sleep/ settle on my chest. When she does sleep on her back she is making some very loud noises and constantly moving around and arching her back in her sleep so looks very uncomfortable even whilst sleeping.

Could it be reflux? Should I head to my local doctor?

Many thanks in advance. An anxious first time Mum.

I'd say hospital for a check-up. Blood is a warning sign if its not from your nipples surely?

Hi Ilove, I would definitely get some help and advice now. With it being the weekend coming up. Phone your GPs and explain the situation.

Is she producing wet nappies, and has her soft spot sunk at all?

Take her to hospital. Can you see anything in her mouth? Are you sure it's not from you?

Phone your midwife cake and ask their advice.

This happened to me with DC2, I nearly had a panic attack when I saw the blood. I phoned the midwife who thought it was from a crack in my nipple - she said the stomach can't handle blood and vomits is back up. The midwife came out to me in the afternoon to check baby and my nipples

I did have an obvious sore nipple though.

I think you should seek medical advice about it.

Thank you lots for your advice. I will call my Doctor now. I don't have any sign of bleeding from my nipples... That I can see! She is still producing wet and soiled nappies so no concern there.
