y little one is meant to be having medicine 4 times a day for a week. tried pinning him down (traumatic for both of us!). spoons, syringe, shot glass (usually works, perfect size hahaa) putting it in his cup with juice, adding a little bit of coke. nothing is working. he isn't able to understand that its to make him better either. stuck!

We recently did this with bribery. First stickers worked for a day and a half, then we moved on to cadburys animal biscuits dd doesn't get chocolate much so this worked I placed them on the tables after mealtimes when she was having the medicine she could see but not reach medicine went with no fuss. Followed by her treat. I did also put her to bed one evening. I had to work it so it was advantagious for her as there was no way I could force her as she spat it out.

I experienced this and was rather upset. Repeat visit to doc; told her I couldn't get it down her. She basically advised I pull myself together, remember im the mum, that she's having the medicine to make her well, and that it is impossible to reason with a 2 year old who doesn't want to be reasoned with. She was right! Ultimately, had to pin her down and syringe mil by mil into the side of her mouth till it was done. She soon realised it was happening no matter what, and eventually took it from a spoon.

I do feel your pain tho! Grin

I agree with bribery. Works every time.

Also have you 'played' at giving medicine to her favourite teddy/you/dad/cat etc. then she'll think it's just normal part of the day.

I posted about my penicillin woes last week and got lots of sympathy and suggestions. not sure what medicine it is you are giving, but I managed to switch flavours which worked an absolute treat. success with strawberry! good luck, 4 times is just too many!

In our house the chocolate fairy used to hide chocolate for little girls who took their medicine.

Yes, sounds like you've tried most things I have (and that someone is getting better anyway), but: Medicine in small shot glass sized thing, add about 1-2tsp ribena (diluted if that applies), provide lovely straw to drink it. Also saying that you'll have to take them to the doctor again for him to give the medicine if you don't do it yourself can be a bit of an incentive. Good luck.
