MMR booster

DD, now 13, had single jabs when she was 2ish (long story, don't ask!).

When she started school she had the MMR booster.

Now the surgery here have said she needs another MMR booster. I don't understand why, but I don't want to waste my gp's time getting him to explain it to me.

Don't the singles count at all?

Just a little aside - according to the HPA there is no firm evidence that mumps causes sterility.

AuntieStella · 07/07/2013 18:18

So they do.

They say mumps does cause orchitis, but there is no firm evidence whether or not orchitis leads to sterility. Can anyone link the evidence that underlies this assertion?

Interestingly, it is now also though the meningitis c vaccine wears off into early adulthood and from September will be given to school leavers at age 14/15 with their booster tetanus.

Can I just add that it certainly was the case, I think it still is, that surgeries receive an MMR compliance bonus which I believe is why they need every child to have the two doses box ticked on their record. Because of the bloody stupid government decision to unlicense singles there is no longer a box to tick if your DC has had them. I'd go for a blood test to check immunity personally.

Jux · 10/07/2013 21:08

She's thinking about it still. Sees sense in extending her immunity, but would like therefore to have this extra jab when she's 20!
