Quick replies needed! What to feed a 3yo with diarrhea?

My 3yo DS has had diarrhea for 2 days following a short flu-like virus. He's well no except for the diarrhea. His appetite seems to be normal but he usually like lots of fruit and veg which I don't want to give him as it would make him worse.

He's had toast and some porridge for breakfast, what would you suggest I offer him for lunch and tea?

when my children have sickness/diarrhea i usually give them whatever it is they will actually eat - usually they dont want much of anything. Usually stick to quite 'bland' things like toast, crisps, crackers, pasta with a pretty bland sauce but i'm not sure there are any 'rules' as such.
Have you tried dioralyte (sorry spelling!) sachets as i find them good for helping to perk them up too- tastes gross but does the job.

thanks toosoppy, I'll keep him to bland food today, he ate normally yesterday and was quite poorly last night as a result:(

Bananas slow down the digestive system so they would be a good option. Bland carbs otherwise.

thanks Snazzy, he's just asked for a banana so I'll give it to him!

I was told to stay away from milk and yogurts while they had diarrhoea and then for a couple of days after it had passed. Perhaps just give him water to drink?

coronalover · 27/06/2013 09:59

thanks monikar will do. he usually drinks water in the day and has some milk before bed but will skip it for now

My mum says eggs are 'binding'!!! But mine won't eat them! Hope he feels better soon

Primrose123 · 27/06/2013 19:05

I was going to say eggs too. Will he eat scrambled eggs?

Lots of water, but slowly, just a sip every now and again.

My mum always says that clear lemonade is good for an upset tummy, something to do with the fizz, but I don't know if that's actually true.

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 27/06/2013 19:54

Dioralyte and the BRAT diet. Bananas, rice, apple, toast. You can give potato too.

coronalover · 29/06/2013 09:43

oh good idea, I'll try eggs for lunch today. If he's not better by Monday I'll take him to the GP asit'll be nearly a week by then:( He's quite well otherwise and his appetite is not too bad but this is dragging on too long.
