Can anyone answer a quick conjunctivitis question?

Our first bout. We have eye drops, but I'm unsure how often I should wash/clean her eyes. Even with warm water its quite hard to remove all the gunk, and I suspect I might just be irritating her eyes more by rubbing, no matter how gentle I try to be. Does anyone have any advice?

I give them a proper clean in the morning when they are really bad and during the day if it gets to the point where DS is being very irritated by them but otherwise I leave well alone. He does wipe them a bit himself with the back of his hand but I find the drops work very quickly (good luck getting them in!)

I've been on MN long enough to pick up tricks, so DD is being firmly wrapped in the largest towel in our cupboard so she can't fight. I'm assuming this falls into the 'got to mean' category.

I have an overwhelming urge to clear away all the gunk!
