Milk teeth loss

Just wondering at what age kids start losing their teeth. I'm sure I was about 5, maybe 6 at the latest when my first one came out. Is it normally later in boys?

Yes, 5 or 6 on average.

My dd lost her first milk tooth 3 weeks after her 7th birthday - was late compared to most of her class but she only got her first tooth when she was 13 months.

Not sure if later in boys generally, but it was definately later for my DS. His baby teeth looked silly in his oversized mouth, all gappy and small, before the top ones finally fell out aged almost 7.5

Dd lost her first tooth a few weeks before her 6th birthday.

I'm sure I read somewhere that the later the milk teeth come in, the later the adult teeth will too. DS1 had his firth tooth at 9 months, and DD at 5.5 months, so there may be some truth in that?

DS (6.5) has lost his first one about 6 months ago and has lost three in total. He seems to be loosing them in the same order as they came in; bottom 2 first, top left and now top right is wobbly. They are so spread out it is ridiculous.

His friend started school at 4 1/2 with two grown up bottom teeth. He seems to be in the middle - some DC (6/7) have all their deciduous teeth and others (5/6) seem well on their way to a full set of gnashers. I still have milk teeth so I hope DS gets rid of all of his.

Sounds pretty varied then. I only ask as dss who will be 7 in a couple of months doesn't even have a wobbly one. He is quite small for his age, and a bit slow developmental wise. I assume the dentist would be concerned anyway if he wasn't losing them at the right time. Saying that I did have a milk tooth still firmly in place at 15 and had it removed before orthodontic treatment so I guess it's normal!

My 7 year old twins went to the dentist today. They still have most baby teeth, but the bottom front ones are still there, but with the adult teeth half way up behind them. He has said to book them in for extraction of the two teeth. But since I've been home tonight I'm really worried that its not a good idea. Could be painful, scared of them freaking out at the injection, and it being a difficult extraction. They are really happy going to the dentist and I don't want to put them off for life. Dh and I not happy for them to have this done if its not really necessary. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks.

I'm a dentist teddy. Extracting primary teeth won't be difficult. However I would suggest your children try to twist them out by themselves rather than getting the dentist to do it.

its quite normal for adult teeth to start growing behind the adult ones and the baby teeth do tend to get pushed out by them. Both dd and ds had their bottom adult teeth come in behind their baby teeth and they came out by themselves

teddymummy, personally I would let them fall out on their own unless as that eruption path is quite normal. However sometimes they need to be removed if causing problems. Which it doesn't sound like. I would wait personally and see if they can wobble them out themselves.

Kiss, they don't seem that loose. Is it actually necessary to have it done or can we just wait and see. He said their teeth are lovely and clean and healthy otherwise. This happened with the top incisors as well and they just came out a few weeks ago by themselves.

If they aren't even loose I'd give it more time. Sometimes primary teeth do need a helping hand from a dentist, but at 7 I wouldn't extract unless they were causing pain. If they haven't exfoliated by next year then I'd reconsider.

on the "shark teeth" thing - my DS is 6 in sept. his 2 bottom teeth started to erupt long before any wobbling and the first one was completely through. I wobbled his tooth every day - he is suspected ASD and just the wobbly tooth part was enough to freak him out - he has yet to be seen by a dentist, we are awaiting SN dentist.

However 1.5 weeks ago the first one did indeed come out and now the new tooth is almost fully into the gap where it should be!

The one next to it doesn't seem to be budging however and tooth is almost fully through

My DS was almost 9 before he lost more than two teeth. All his friends were walking round looking like Barry Gibb and he still had these lovely neat rows of tiny baby teeth.
