Baffled by 6mo virus/rash

Was wondering if anyone had thoughts about this?

DS (6mo) & DD (3yo) were exposed to chicken pox on Tues so have been on the alert for spots etc anyway (even though I know it could be another 3wks for the virus to incubate Blush)...

DS has had a runny nose for a few days. He got a mildish fever Friday evening (38+) but calpol did the trick. He was quite grumpy yesterday, but fever didn't get too much higher, calpol was given regularly, as were breastfeeds & has had the usual amount of solids.

I notice he got a spot in his groin crease, so layered on the cream & left it. Since then he's been getting more spots in both the nappy region & elsewhere - a couple on his legs, shoulder, arm. They are red, pimple-like, but def not blistered, & quite small. The ones in his nappy have become a bit open - like the top has been rubbed off with cleaning, so I'm taking care to use cream. There are no signs of nappy rash otherwise - no redness, dryness, crustiness etc.

His fever seems lower without regular doses of calpol, bit equally he is still getting a bit hot & is very grumpy.

I thought DD had a couple of the same spots on her upper arm but they have faded a little. She seems well in herself, if a little whingey hello terrible 3s!

It doesn't seem to be chicken pox, even if they'd coincidentally contracted CP 2wks ago after my friend's DD came down with it on Wed. It doesn't look like roseola or any other usual rash affecting young children - thank you Dr Google Wink

Am a bit Confused. If DS seemed to be really seriously poorly, I'd not hesitate to take him to the GP, but without an appointment, we could be there all day (& risk even more exposure to nasties for both of them). I guess I'm a bit worried I might miss a sign or indication that it might get a bit more problematic when I don't have a clue what it is!

Any help/ideas much appreciated.

It does sound like DD2's chicken pox did, he may have been in contact with CP apart from the time you know about.

DD2 had some really nasty spots in her nappy area, especially close to her anus. I used Metanium on her as in the past this has "dried out" grungy nappy rash.

BTW I mean the original yellow Metanium, not the new everyday one.

Sounds like chicken pox to me children are contagious before the spots come out so contact could have been unknowing.I would be a bit concerned about breeding baby though as your immunity should be provided via your Brest milk. Are you certain that you are immune to the chicken pox because it's fairly crappy for adults.Children are usually most miserable before the spots start then improve once they start.

Thanks. My Dsis has since seen the spots & confirmed CP too. So seems it was a coincidentally incubating in both my friend's DD & my 2!

And yes, sandiy thanks, my DM is certain I've had it. Apparently I've had everything going :) I had hoped he would be protected a bit more but I think I've read about research recently that suggests immunity/protection against anything other than d&v type things is limited.

And mikkii I've got the yellow, a bomb-wouldn't-shift-it stuff. I'll keep an eye on it and if I think its infected take him to get antibiotics, otherwise I'll avoid spreading the CP & avoid the GP. (Tbf, they put any rash-sufferers in a different room, but just in case...)
