Holiday in three days and hacking cough

DS (3) had high temperature, cough and sore ears last weekend. Went to doctors on Monday and given antibiotic for ear infection. He has been taking it since and his ears seem to have cleared up. His cough has got much worse though. It is a really hacking cough that is worse when he is lying down. He doesn't have a temp anymore but has no energy. Spent most of today on the sofa. Normally i would just wait this out but we are scheduled to go to Germany for two weeks on Wednesday. Any tips on how to speed up his recovery? Do you think it would be worth going back to the doctors? given the timescale it would have to be an emergency appointment. Really don't want to have to put my limited German to the test bringing him to the doctors there.

Hi. Both of my sons, (and me) have not been well over the last 10 days with a similar thing. Both boys had a temperature for a few days then just weren't themselves and had a terrible cough like you describe, much worse at night. The youngest was off nursery for a week and is back to himself but still has a bit of a cough. I think it's unlikely if he has seen t he doctor and had antibiotics that anything else has developed in his chest but if you have time it may be worth getting the doctor to check just incase. I always find that coughs can last for quite a long time.

Try to make sure he has as much sleep as possible including a rest during the day. Also drinking lots of water and keep some by his bed at night. I gave them a bath and put vic on their chest and gave them an extra pillow to keep them raised as much as possible.
Hopefully by the time you go he will be back to himself but the cough may linger a bit longer.

Thanks! My niece also has a variation on the same thing so I know its going around. Cross fingers it clears up on its own before our holiday.
The other side effect is that he keeps having accidents. He has been potty trained since Christmas but yesterday we had four accidents. Not sure if he is just too tired/ lazy to drag himself upstairs to the potty or whether it could be a side effect of the antibiotics.

My son has a very hacking cough today and is wheezy when he lies down. In himself he is okay, and his temperature is only a little bit raised so I'm hoping he will shake it off as we fly tomorrow!

He had an accident this morning and I wondered whether it was because the cough loosened his bladder control?!
