My child's obese : /

Arghhhh Ava's always been tall she's the tallest in her class she's 116cm and weighs 4 stones Confused !!! Nhs website says this is obese, she does pig out and is pretty active what else can I do to keep her weight down, she does look chubby but I never thought it an issue till I weighed her this morning !! Anyone in the same position ?

She eats the same as me And my partner we do slimming world meals so there's nothing processed in our meals it's all freshly cooked, her portions are smaller i could do with cutting them smaller, I might have to just up her activity she can be really laid back like me so maby extra walks would help ?

If both you and your dp are on slimming world, are you both overweight?

Maybe you are right about the portion sizes.

What does she eat for breakfast?

Are you absolutely sure you measured her right? Because that's completely off the charts for height and weight. Not sitting at the top of the charts, right off the scale.

We are a bit over weight but where not massive lol! I've been doing sw on and off for years I do it for healthy eating as well to be fair. Her breakfast is toast and our bread is always whole meal smallest slices as well lol !! She has two slices either on there own or scrambles eggs, I measured her and she's 45-46 inches , and my scales say she's 4 stones, there accurate for me so don't see why they'd bee off for her : /

I thin the activity is the key thing, at 3 that should be easily done by normal day to day playing - a run in the garden or park, ride on the bike etc.

116cm is the average height of a 6yo girl. 4 stones is the average weight of an 8yo girl.

Could you see a GP for clarification of your child's actual proportions. I just can't picture a 3yo who is a few cm shorter than my 6yo but weighs significantly more (and my dd is the tallest in her class, between the 75th and 91st centile for both height and weight).

I agree ! I'm at work most afternoons and weekends so she's with her dad at work, he's in an office but its on 3 floors and she's up and down em like note right ! Also when she's with her nan she's always in the garden ! When I have her from now on I'm gonna take her to the park or a walk with the dog, she isn't lazy neither am I, another thing tho her dad is 6ft summit and has a big build

Perfectly possible for a 4yo to be 116cm Quint, I'm not questioning that. Just tall but within normal range.

I'm just questioning the op who has a 3.9yr old who is way off the charts for both height and weight and whether she's absolutely sure of these measurements. I think if she is so far off the charts then it's worth a GP visit to double check and to discuss exactly what's going on.

If you are a bit overweight, you may not quite see just how overweight your daughter is, your perception may be a bit skewed. (Overweight myself) 4 stone is massive.

What about her treats? Does she drink fruit juice and squashes/cordials? These are massively calorific.

Haha showofhands it is hard to beilive but she is in 6 year olds clothing as she's so tall lol ! Can I post pics on here ??? I would happily upload one see what people think

I'm against fizzy drinks, she has water or on the odd occasion sugar free cordial, I think I'm gonna have a trip to the docs I hope my scales are off lol!!! No ones ever said oh she's fat people usually just say she's tall

My 11 year old son cant manage two slices of toast in the morning. He can just about have 1 1/2 scrambled egg.

What about her other meals? Snack and drinks?

If your dp works in an office and she is there, do you reckon others may give her treats? Is she in nursery/preschool at all? At 3 she should have funding for a part time place.

No treats unless we go to are local playarea then it isn't stupid just a small bag of sweets she doesn't even have a kids meal i usually give her some of my carvery, I don't think two slices of toast and scrambled eggs is loads, there small slices so its probably equivalent to one slice on white bread ! She had fruit and milk at nursery comes home and we have dinner like a chicken breast and veg/salad hers isn't the same portion as ours, her puddings are yogurt or fruit same for tea, no freezer stuff just veg and whatever else

4 stone is very heavy for a 3 year old. Can you pick her up?

Two slices of toast for breakfast sounds ok. My children all eat one or two bowls of cereal every morning, and they are very slim, verging on underweight. They all do a lot of exercise - walking every day and several activities a week.

I'm thinking it may be her portions will cut down on them, I never really thought they were huge and she never usually finishes it all

Nursery have never said anything, as a baby she was skinny and long it isn't till the last year she's started with the weight gain
