Baby bcg?

Can someone please reassure me that their baby's BCG site went gross a few months later?

My 6 mo has a very red, swollen pus filled arm and I had a little 'this is normal, right?' monent bathing her tonight.

Many thanks

You must get her checked out

Any infection in a young baby should be looked at

I also wouldn't assume it was to do with the injection especially as it was some time ago

Does she seem well on herself?

Absolutely tip top. Was told to expect the site to 'come up' and look angry a few months on.

My DD's was very swollen looking for a good while and as advised when they did the injection, it was about 3 months after the injection itself.
Nurse actually said 'however tempting, don't pick it'!!

She's 8 months now and although still quite red/ purple, the bump is gone.

Yeah I seem to be finding lots of grim tales of burst bcgs and angry looking lumps months later.

Gross.

Might just call GP for peace of mind

Thanks!

Yes, most go horrible about 6 weeks in.

DD had what I can only describe as an abscess for about a month that used to fill up with pus and then burst. She was entirely unbothered by it. Totally normal according to both GP and my father (former GP).

3 months down the line it had totally cleared up and healed. She's now 4 and has a small purple indentation where it was done.

Thanks for the reassurance. Waiting for GP to call me back so I can rest assured it doesn't need antibiotics to clear up. Looks quite angry this morning but so did mine I remember. Wondering if she's inherited my dreadful healing time!

Thought I should report back in case anyone stumbles of this searching for similar issues.

Went to dr who decided not to give antibiotics but wrote up prescription and told me to keep an eye. Things to be v careful about: the spot feeling hot, excess pus, the red ring spreading or a temperature for little one.

If it were to burst: avoid plasters if possible, put long sleeves on if she's itching it, no swimming (boo), clean with sterile water.

Hopefully it's healing

My DD is also having the swollen, puss-filled, bleeding bump. Started 4 months after vaccine and been going on for 2.5 months. Pediatrician and dermatologist concerned that the bump keeps getting infected, so yesterday did a biopsy to see if it's a virus (molluscum contagiosa possibly) or bacteria that has gotten underneath the vaccine site or if it's BCG infection. The latter is unlikely as no ganglion and healthy baby otherwise. Thought I'd share this cuz sounds like it's worth getting the infectious stuff analysed.

Thanks!

We've had to bursts but it seems to be 'drying out' & getting smaller but that's definitely worth knowing thank you.
