DS (2y7m) has a rash. GP tomorrow or not?

DS (2.7) has a rash on his torso. It disappears under a glass so not worried from that point of view.

It's a mottled rash with ever so slightly raised bumps on his skin - kindof like your skin goes if you stand under a hot shower then go into a cold bathroom - not the first bright red but the cooling down skin red (if that makes sense!).

He doesn't have a major temperature, but it is slightly raised for him (37.3 versus his usual 36.4/6) and he seems fine in himself - still as stroppy and grouchy as a toddler can be

He also has a major nappy rash going on due to some nasty nappies - 4 poo's today as opposed to his normal 1 or 2, but only 1 yesterday.

My immediate very over the top PFB response is to rush him to OOH, but my saner response is see how he is overnight and then decide.

If it is the same tomorrow as today, WWYD? (If it helps, he's supposed to be attending a birthday party on Saturday for one of the children he goes to nursery with - I'd like to be sure he isn't contagious!)

Lots of viruses present with a rash. I would wait and see how he is, take him to be seen if he seems really out of sorts. No treatment anyway for a virus, all you can do is give calpol if his temp goes up. I wouldn't take him to a party thoug, in case it is something like fifth disease, (slapped cheek) which can cause miscarriages.

Not slapped cheek - we missed it but friends DS got it, looking at the NHS rash page it does look more viral or allergic in nature.

Suspect I'll maybe GP him anyway tomorrow if it is still there - we have family arriving on Monday, some of whom have reduced immunity so while a cold virus is fine, something more serious may not be. Also over the weekend here is not a good time to be ill as OOH is a tiny bit useless

Good idea to be super cautious if you have anyone close with reduced immunity. GPs do tend to be a bit clueless with rashes though, even with things like scarletina. Some children seem to react with rashes to all sorts of random viruses so it can be hard to diagnose a specific thing. Hope he is better tomorrow.

Scarlet fever? Does it feel like sandpaper? Does he have raised glands or sore throat?

Well the rash is less pronounced today, he slept through the night which he doesn't normally do if he's ill and when gently questioned as to how he feels he says he's fine - just hungry!

Rash doesn't feel like sandpaper, just raised lumps (almost like a very mild case of body acne) so I honestly think it's viral.

GP today just in case though - really don't want to put a party or family at risk.

GP has diagnosed post viral rash. No need to keep away from anyone.

What I expected, but she didn't think I was paranoid especially in light of visitors with reduced immune systems.
