hand tremor 8 year old boy

Hi just wondering if anyone's child does this. I've noticed over the last 4 wks my ds age 8 has been having these tremors in his hands. At first I thought it was when he was about to do something like write or eat but I've noticed it at rest too. He says sometimes it makes his writing shakey at school. I went to gp she is not overly concerned but had made referral to paed neurologist just to be safe. have any of ye experienced this ? thanks .

Thanks sleepy. That's what I'm hoping that it's something he will grow out of. Might be worth trying magnesium supplements also. Might wait to have him seen cos I presume that they will do blood tests and maybe something might show in that. It is reassuring that you outgrew it. ThanksSmile

My DP got a tremor in his hand when he was six - it turned out to be linked to autonomic dysfunction. He still has the tremor and has issues with blood pressure, his immune system and energy. Do try the magnesium supplements, and I really hope they solve the issue, but definitely see a neurologist to rule out anything serious.

Thanks filly. We will def see neurologist cos I'd be afraid we would miss something serious as you said. Never heard of what yor DH has so I suppose it could be anything or it could be nothingSmile . DS doesn't have any other symptoms but does have a language delay. He had an EEG done at 10 months old for jerking of his hands and legs. That was normal and this jerking lasted a month or so then stopped. Afraid this tremor might be related to what he had a baby also.

No problem. I'd never heard of it either - basically a problem with the autonomic nervous system which controls basically everything. The neurologist will be able to check him out fully. Because you're afraid that the things are related, you need to go for your own peace of mind. If the jerking stopped, it doesn't sound like much reason to worry.

yeah I think it's best to be safe than sorry. He is fine in every other way so here's hoping it's just one of these transient things Smile Smile
