bloody thread worms again....

Am loosing the will rapidly, me and dd (7yo) are just recovering from a nasty stomach bug last week. Last night she mentioned her bottom was a bit itchy and I told her to put a bit of sudocrem on thinking maybe it had gotton a bit sore post bug.

Tonight before bed she was complaining again about itchiness so I had a look and sure enough saw several white 'threads' I gave her a dose of ovex (?sp) and sudocremmed her bottom but feel like its never ending!!

I have just washed all the bedding on a hot wash post bug and bleached the bathroom and the thought of doing it all again makes me want to cry

Oh I know how you feel! Dd age 7 got them last summer and ovex did work with a few days but she has had repeated infections ever since! It's so hard to get rid of!

We have done all the deep cleaning etc etc and the whole family has been treated each time but she has terrible hygiene! I can keep watch at home etc but I know she's rubbish at washing hands in school etc so just reinfects herself! It's very frustrating as they are only gone for a month or so then back again! The worst thing is she isnt bothered so doesn't actively try to stop them!

Sorry no actual help there but wanted to share your pain!

I think dd isn't too bad at washing her hands but she does put her hands in her mouth quite a lot and like you said at school they just do what they want!!

She is also not keen on bathing every day so thats going to be fun

I got dd a small bottle of hand sanitizer for school and let her keep it in her book bag or coat and she says she does use it but we'll see how it goes. Dd is the same with baths and now into showers!

We haven't got a shower unfortunately but the hand sanitizer is a good idea.

The message is: she'll grow out of it. My DD was the same at 7. We had frequent infections and, each time, I felt very sorry for myself. All that washing ? (To say nothing of the cost of the tablets with five of us in the family.) Made me feel like weeping.

But she is now 10 and no infections for about 18 months. I don't know if she is just more careful about hygiene. My mum says that as you grow older, your stomach acid gets better at finishing off the eggs (which explains why it is uncommon in adults unless they are run down). Whatever the reason, I do think it's something that will get better with time.

I know my heart is sinking at the thought of buying more tablets plus cost of all the washing.

To be honest, I gave up with the damp dusting ? it was just such an unending task. I made sure that all night clothes, bed linen and towels were changed (for the whole family). I made all the children sleep in tight-fitting pants for a fortnight and I took all teddies away for a fortnight (yes, that was pretty hard, they soon learnt the drill tho). Then I really concentrated on handwashing and not putting hands in mouths, on the assumption that if the eggs can't get inside, the worms stop. (At one point, I worried I was going to create three little OCD zombies but they seem to have come through it all relatively normally.) They are still all very good about handwashing, which has the advantage of hopefully cutting down a bit on viruses too.

Honestly, if we'd be warned what parenting REALLY meant ?

Dds room could do with a good hoover and dust anyway so will do that today, change bedding for the millionith time again and will wash the most played with teddies. Was also thinking about putting some of that vile stop nail biting stuff in her nails to discourage her putting hands in mouth - haven't told her that yet though!!
