Just that really and so trivial to others threads here but wanted to say thanks.

Have dithered about it for ages. We were offered op last year but deferred. However we had another awful winter and my poor ds has suffered terribly. I felt awful about the idea of him having to go through it but so many people on here were full of positive stories and kind messages that we were rereferred, saw the consultant and are booked in in 4 weeks. I'm actually relieved we are doing something positive to stop him suffering so much.

Upjacob - hi there. My little girl had a tonsillectomy a week ago, and our experience hasn't been great (i've just posted about it actually).

I won't frighten you with the details, but please make sure you're aware of all the risks before signing the consent form. Although post-op bleeding, hemorraging, infection etc are very rare, they can happen. My daughter's had to have another two operations this week to repair burst blood vessels from her tonsillectomy and has had to be put on a drip.

Can't say yet whether or not i regret getting it done. It all depends if she hemorrages again.

I wish you and your son all the best of luck for his operation. My daughter's considered a 'rare' case, but even the ENT nurse said she wished more peple were aware of the risks etc.

Any fresh blood whatsoever that you notice at home, you should call 999 immediately.

Elibean...thank you so much. I really do appreciate that. I have actually nc'd since I asked for the initial advice and I recall you answering some queries I had, so, once again thanks and I'm sure I'll be on here when he has the op.

Mumford...I'm so sorry to hear your poor dd has suffered and you've had such a scary time. I am naturally cautious/a worrier by nature and had actually declined the op initially due to worries about the bleeding, infection risks etc after, but I have had to put rational head on and having weighed it all up accept that actually this is the right thing for him. Constant pain, antibiotics, bad sleep, not eating etc are worse in the long run.
He will sleep with me for a few days post op and I will heed your advice re 999. I've equipped myself with as much info as possible so should we have a rough ride after I will act immediately. So again thankyou and I really hope your dd has taken a turn for the better.

Hello. My daughter had her tonsils out nov 2011. She had a major clot and bleed afterwards and had a second surgery. She had a tough time for the following 2 weeks but I don't regret her having the operation at all. Following the op We had an amazinginy brilliant winter with no colds, tonsillitis, ear infections. Totally worth it in the long run for us!

There were a lot of MN mums with LOs having adenotonsillectomies at the same time as dd2, and most of them had an easy time of it post-op. One little girl had a minor bleed, and my own dd and one other little boy had a fair amount of pain, but the majority were crisp-eating, back to normal fast stories. So the odds are on your side....
