Spotty 8 y/o

I know this isn't life threatening or anything but one of my 8 y/o boys has been getting teenage-like spots on his face. I wouldn't go so far as to call it acne but it is getting quite noticable.
What is causing it and how can it be treated? He is only 8!

my 8yo is the same, really obvious zits on her forehead and round her nose, poor love. I've been getting her to wash her face twice a day in a mild teatree and witchhazel facewash and she has a witchhazel spot stick thing to put on her forehead. I've been avoiding the stronger clearasil type stuff due to her age but tbh the milder stuff doesn't seem to work all that well so will be watching with interest to see if anyone has any suggestions.
