Protein in urine sample

Dd, 15 months, was quite ill with a nasty tummy bug last weekend, we took her to out of hours who did a urine test to rule out a uti. This was negative, but apparently there was some protein in her urine so it needs to be re-tested. GP said hopefully it won't be there any more, but if it is he said something vague about referral to a paed and scans... Am now googling in style of mad cyberchondriac. Does anyone have any knowledge or experience? She is usually very healthy.

It can be a marker of kidney issues and the GP is therefore right to follow up and check it, however this is only a small possibility in the list of reasons protein can be detected so at this point in time I suggest you try to put it to the back of your mind and see if it just settles without needing all these checks. Even if you reach the point of further checks being made there is still a fair chance things will turn out normal.
