Stopping domperidone - 22 week old

I am hoping that someone will have some information do me because I am a bit clueless at the moment .

My DD has GERD and was hospitalised at 4 weeks old following a particularly nasty attack which resulted in her refusing to eat for days. She was also diagnosed with CMPI. We left hospital with domperidone, ranitidine, IG and nutramigen formula.

She has the ranitidine dose increased periodically with weight gain and we have now moved to carobel rather than IG. So I started to wonder if the domperidone was worth it as noone seems very interested in it.

I asked my GP about coming off it and he shrugged his shoulders.

I decided at the start of the week to just stop giving it to her. Since then she has been having colic like symptoms - lots of straining and apparent stomach cramps.

I can't find anything online which would suggest that this is the domperidone but the timing seems right.

I am sorry for the length of this post. Does anyone have any ideas?

I am not an expert on domperidone but you really MUST NOT withdraw meds unilaterally and all at once. Our son was on ranitidine for reflux up until about 11 months and we were told to withdraw it gradually (one dose per day less per week, if you see what I mean) and to add the dose in if he experienced discomfort.

Surely, if your daughter was hospitalised, she is under a paediatrician now for check ups etc? If so, then that would be the appropriate person to ask. If not, I would ring up the hospital and ask for advice. In the interim, I would reinstate the domperidone.

The hospital discharged my DD to the full care of the GP. Even when in the hospital we were seen by many different consultants with no one taking ownership. At the time we were so glad to get treatment for her we didn't question it but now things just seem to be drifting. I kept being asked if I had seen the dietician but noone seemed to actually make the referral.

Like I say, when I spoke to the Gp he literally shrugged his shoulders and said "just stop giving it and hope for the best"

Now I feel dreadful because I think I have made her poorly.

Last time I had her weighed the GP decided to refer back to paeds for poor weight gain but I am not sure how long the referral will take.

I will give paeds a call and see if anyone can advise. I will give her a dose with her next bottle.
