MMR v Single injections

Hi, my ds is 10yr and when he had the MMR jab, lots of people were choosing the single injections instead of the combined MMR jab.

I was wondering whether people are more happy with the MMR now, or if there is still some trepidation towards it and people still going (hopefully, rather than not at all) for the single jabs??

I have a 10yo DS and he had single injections, because that is when all the original hoo has was, Dr Wakefield etc, differing opinions in the news etc, I remember my gp at the time was unsure! Was a confusing time, so we paid for single jabs.

Also have ds2 who is 5 and he had mmr no problem, older & wiser etc etc.

As far as I know there is no more mumps vaccine being manufactured anymore, so you can still have singles but not for mumps.

It just made me wonder as there is the Measles outbreak at the moment.
It was an awful time wasn't it. My GP was excellent and openly stated all his 3 dc had had the MMR so I did my research and both my dc had the MMR.

DS had single injections for measles and mumps (on the advice of his GP).
DD had MMR - and an allergic reaction so bad she had a lights a sirens trip to hospital followed by a stay in the PICU.

DS (6) had single jabs, but on the second round could only have Measles and Rubella, as the mumps vaccine became unavailable. So he's had one Mumps vaccine, so now not sure whether to go for the MMR some time in the next couple of years, or to do some kind of immunity test to see whether he got enough protection from the first jab. I'm keen to make sure he's immunised effectively against mumps before he reaches puberty.

Anyone else in this situation, what did you do?

I am in same situation BlueString. Eldest only one mumps vaccine and youngest due 2nd MMR [3].
Eldest 7 and like you pondering MMR which will mean triple dose of measles and rubella to cover mumps.

I had DCs at the time of the furore (it really was poor timing of the health planners to continue with the withdrawal of a trusted jab when MMR was controversial).

If having DCs now, I wouldn't worry about MMR, because of the extra decades of evidence of safety.

But the single vaccines are also effective and safe. The important thing is that immunisation takes place, not which type of jab.
