Ear discharge question please...

DS is 2.3, had grommets since 18mo for severe glue ear (extensive hearing loss and recurrent infections). Anyway, he got chicken pox last week, about 3 days into it he spiked high temp, began complaining of ear pain and was acting like he does with ear infection. Sure enough, stuff starting leaking from the offending ear.
He started some amoxicillin the next day and no further temp/pain after 24/48 hrs. the GP didn't see him because of the pox.
However, the discharge continues to be very profuse. It is inoffensive, serisanguinous fluid. But loads and loads of it and it's not abating. It's running down his face/neck and I'm having to mop it up and change his pillowcase every nap.
I feel quite experienced with ear infections if you like, he's had so many but I've never seen anything like it.
I wonder if anyone can advise? I will ring GP tomorrow but in the mean time before I just get fobbed off...

This could be my ds 3, he had chicken pox 4 weeks ago and has grommets, and within two days yellow sticky fluid leaked out of his ear, doctor also wouldn't see him and he was prescribed, amoxycillin, then two weeks later still complaining of ear pain on and off was seen by another doctor who couldnt see anything but prescribed augmentin. The ear hasn't leaked since the first leakage but I often see ds poking his ear.

Hi what I can say is if a child has bad ear ache, what can really help is a warm flannel on the ear.

Thank you shiny - it's the fact that it's just so profuse and not letting up that puzzles/worries me...

Does he have an ent consultant you could call and ask? I am thinking of doing this for ds as although no further leakage, and it seems to be pain free, he keeps sticking his finger in every other day.

Not really. The consultant that saw him and did the surgery is a really unapproachable, stand-offish knob chap. He's now signed him off from his books if you like so I'd need a referral from the GP again I guess.
