Drs/nurses what could cause.....

Constant glare ups of a staph infection. Background: dd1 and dd 2 both had what gp diagnosed as a fungal infection a few weeks back. Was given creams and dd1 had to have some ABs. Dr prescribed flucoxicillin as dd1s was infected. Dd2 cleared up no problem!

Dd1 continued to have lesions developing , some were going as she completed the course but one kept getting bigger do trip back to gp.

He swabbed, suspected either a staph/strep infection and gave Augmentin. It had some other ingredient an acid beginning with C.

Took that and all seemed to clear up. Last week i tool her to drs with sore eye.dr diagnosed belepharitis. Got cream And it cleared up. Past couple of days dd1 has had a sore nose, the bit between the nostrils.Been applying Vaseline and savlon but its spreading and now she's developed a blister on her nose under her bottom lip and there r patches which could indicate beginning of more :(. So it's back :(

What the hell can be causing this?

What are the lesions like? Are the wet, weeping type things or dry?

DD1 had a staph infection on her upper arm close to elbow crease. Took 6 months and 4 lots of antibiotics plus umpteen creams to shift it. I think it went of its own accord in the end.

At the moment one looks like a blister. The one on the skin between nostrils looks like the top layer of skin is missing. Like a blister burst and you have the pink sore looking skin underneath. That bits starting to go a bit crusty in places. The one under her lip was a tiny barely noticeable blister this morning. It's now red and sore looking and a little scabbed over. No real weeping yet but the blister one on her nose is raised and looks like a blister. There are red patched in her eye brow which I'm worried could be more starting. And there's a small scratch on her eye lid which could or could not be related.

It ate away at her leg now its eating her beautiful face:( it doesn't look like anything I can find :(

Pretty sure she needs another course of ABs , will I be thought of as a pain in the arse if I use OOH tomorrow just it spreads so bloody quick and drs aren't open til Tuesday.

Sounds like impetigo, both my girls had it one summer, was awful took dd1 3 lots of antibiotics to clear it.

That's the weird thing. Despite all the kissing cuddling playing etc dd2 doesnt get it. Only dd1 . Isn't imprrteigo really contagious?

And will I get laughed at from OOH if I call and try to get her seen? Really don't wanna risk leaving til Tuesday at the rate this thing spreads?

Well, her nose is still sore and the blister on her lip has doubled in size since last night. :( they still look like blisters at the moment but I know she's going to have large open sores on her nose and lip soon :(

Don't panic! - might not be pretty in the short run but v. unlikely to be scarred for life -this is just a minor blip it will pass and her beautiful face will still be beautiful!
Take back to GP tomorrow and insist on getting it swabbed and identified properly- and they can check for viruses too ...
Also say you are concerned about the repeated infections ...you don't say how old she is but children's immune systems aren't fully developed until 7-8 yo so might just be normal ... or maybe it is something in her environment ..but maybe she is struggling to fight off another bug or maybe her immune system isn't working very well - she is lacking some nutrient(s) or even just sleep...

This actually could (really emphasis the could!) be cold sores...I (adult) get them in my nose and just under my nose - not on my lips - once (when really run down) I had a massive scabby bit under my nose down to my lip, on the sides of my nose, inside my nose and under my bottom lip - I needed oral antivirals to shift it.
Also DD2 had a funny nappy rash that kept coming and going - like blisters...went on for months - seem to clear up and then came back again. HV and GP didn't know what it was- said most of these things are fungal ...had anti-fungal cream seemed to clear up but came back, tried antibiotic cream etc etc - in the end had it swabbed (not cold sore virus -thank god - am really careful but the guilt I would have felt!) - they identified the bacteria and treated with specific (not broad spectrum) antibiotics (sorry can't remember specifics) - cleared it up for good...

When I took her with her leg the second time they swabbed it. I never got a result but when I called the note on the receptionists computer said -on correct treatment. So assumed it was the staph or strep infection he had mentioned. And when I took her about her eye I told the dr to check her records as she had not long had this infection. He then said something about oh yes she's had a staph infection/ that's the only reason I know the result of the test. Still he said it was this belapheritis thing and clearly she has the staph infection back :( neither me dd2 or dp have had a cold sore and no one else is getting this infection which is all a bit weird.

An hoping the creams I'm using will keep it at bay well enough til tomorrow.

She's six by the way and otherwise has been very healthy the past year, :)

I think it is worth contacting the OOH doctors, for a phone consult if nothing else.

If she has had something similar that hasn't really cleared up easily and if the the sores are growing so quickly, given they are so close to her eyes and brain then I think it does make sense to try to stop it from getting bigger as quickly as possible.

Even if the ooh doc can only give a treatment based on previous swab, at least it will be better than nothing even if she needs to be reswabbed later if it doesn't help.

Would anything like teatree (sp) oil or neem oil help?

Also could she have a roll of kitchen roll in the bathroom to dry her face on something clean each time (sorry you are probably already doing something similar so apologies if I'm stating the obvious).

I'm using daktocort (sp?) and some antibiotic cream I bought for her eye last week. To try and keep it at bay. But the blister in her nose has definately grown since this morning :( do ooh drs give out actual meds for things like this? I just assumed that by time I got a call back I'd not be able to get the prescription anywhere anyway. The last lot I had to try three pharmacies before I found one that had it.

If she keeps getting staph infections then its likely that she or another member of the family is a carrier of the bacteria and that is why she is getting reinfected. Staph lives up noses, so ask your GP to take nasal swabs from everyone un the family. Carriage can be eradicated using topical antibiotic creams.

Don't use eye creams up their noses. See the GP.

Is it more likely to be thru family or school do u think?

Call or you'll never know. Daktocort is an anti fungal I think, I wouldn't be using that or the anti B cream until you have seen a doctor.

Don't get yourself tied up in the how's or whys right now. Get you dd seen, then worry about that.

How strange DD 14 has this at the moment,it started last summer 8 times in three months and was treated as cold sores,just reappeared a month ago and we went to a private dermatologist as she was missing so much school.
Just got results back and it is a staph infection -they were brilliant and even treated her sample with various antibiotics to see which worked the best (only two did and she is allergic to one of them)she also has lip cream,nose cream and body wash,although that seems to give her rashes...
DH and I are going to be swabbed next week but if we are not carriers then all our animals will have to be tested-yikes could be interesting.
She may still have cold sores and the bacterial infection has followed on from those.
Will have everything crossed that it has gone when she finishes the antibiotics tomorrow and will watch this thread with interest.
Poor DD has been so fed up with not going out and missing nice things and don't even get me started on girls posting impetigo pictures on facebook encouraging others to "like" if they are glad they don't have this

It's driving us both crazy. She's never ever had anything like it before and the drs seemed surprised to see it on her leg. Not quite sure what will happen if we get body wash as she has exczema and extremely sensitive skin. Many products irritate or give her a rash :( could it really last that long???

And they need animals testing? I had them checked for ringworm when they got the fungal infection and they were clear. I hope they don't have to hurt them to test them :(

The specialist dermatologist said really she should have developed an immunity to this in childhood but some people just don't...

We will only have to have the animals tested if DH and I come back clear.
They will only do swabs so it won't hurt them just the logistics of swabbing ferrets,ducks,sheep,chickens,dog.quail,chickens,guinea pigs and love birds-would be soooo much easier if we were carriers

So it's likely to happen again then? :(
