Decanting liquid antibiotic into another bottle/container

Hi, sorry if this is a stupid question but by 5 year old daughter takes a daily antibiotic dose for prevention of UTIs. We are going on a two week holiday in a weeks time (flying). Because she takes it daily we have a massive 300ml bottle of it which will be too much liquid to take in hand luggage (I am thinking the limit is 100ml, right?) and I am loathed to put it in the cargo hold in case luggage gets lost so I need to decant an appropriate amount into a container small enough to take in hand luggage.

My question is whether doing this compromises the medicine in any way or if there is any particular type of container I should use to put the medicine in? Would anything sterilised and air tight be fine?

Sorry if silly question but last thing we want is her getting a UTI or some other issue on a foriegn holiday so being super cautious.

Thanks

I wouldn't decant it (although I think the medicine is unlikely to 'spoil' in a different airtight sterilised bottle), I would simply ask the doctor to prescribe a one off small bottle to take with you.

Carrying medicine in an unmarked and potentially unsuitable container is dangerous as far as I'm concerned. Your DD or another child could accidently digest it (as I imagine the large bottle has a security cap on it). Also, if stopped by customs you may be carrying an illegal substance or carrying a controlled substance in an inappropriate container which could lead you open to prosecution (I imagine having a prescription and properly medical labelled bottle would help to mitigate this risk).

Not worth the risk! Hope you manage to get this sorted and have a love holiday.

Thanks Gatorade, I take your points (although the larger bottle is just a standard screw cap).

I think the doctor might be awkward about prescribing another smaller bottle because it is a relatively expensive medicine and we just got a 300ml repeat, but I will just have to state my case.

I might start by going to the pharmacy to see if they can help to re-bottle it officialy and correctly labelled.

How much does she take daily / how much will you need for the time away?

Great idea with the pharmacy, they should be able to help.

Norbert, she takes 4ml daily so will need 56mls for 2 week holiday, although would want to take a bit more than that to cover little spills/dribbles.

I would ask the pharmacist then and see if they can decant some into a suitable 100ml bottle, or even 2 x 50ml if you want to make sure you've still got some even if you mislay one IYSWIM.
