My little man of 3.5 yrs has been poorly with a bad cold and sore throat. He is fine when given calpol, but with nurofen (also tried calrofen, and sainsburys version) he starts to cry and says it stings his mouth. Now he Refuses to have any. Anyone else come across this? It's worrying me as he has a high temp and needs calpol and ibruprofen ideally.

I've not, no, but I'd stop giving it. Could well be a mild reaction to the nurofen it's self or one of the ingredients used to deliver it, it's possible that if you keep giving it he could be sensitized over time and have a strong reaction to it.

It's be a good idea to discuss it with your GP.

Ibuprofen is associated with mouth & throat ulcers in some cases - I'd stop giving it.

Have you tried it yourself? I find it sticks in my throat a bit and makes me cough. I reckon if you already had a sore throat it would probably sting it.

DD had a very sore throat last week and she found that Nurofen stung her throat.
