Gall Stones in 12yr old!!!

Just got home after 3days in hospital with my 12 yr old DD who has been shown to have gall stones! We will be going back in 8 weeks to have the gall bladder removed. Has anyone out there had any experience of this???

She has been having extreme pain on and off for the past year. We were told it could be a stomach ulcer, but when that medication didn't work we went to A&E and found out about the gall stones through an ultrasound. I am very worried as she is so young and really doesn't have a particularly high fat diet.

If you have any experience of this or advice on how I can reassure her I would be greatly appreciative as she is terrified about the up coming surgery.

The pain from now and 8 weeks is to be managed by paracetamol and ibuprofen!!! Surely this can be harmful! I really want to put my faith in the Drs so would love to hear from anyone else.

hi ...this was us 18 months ago ..my daughter was 11 and had abdominal pain and vomiting for a week which hospital thought was attention seeking. ..... ultrasound scan showed multiple gall stones....the surgery was done via key hole ...one night in hospital and very quick recovery. ... it really wasn't as bad as we thought it would be .

That is great to know, thanks. What would make anyone think she was attention seeking??!? Did they tell you what they thought had caused them? We are going to avoid fat as much as we can for the next 8 weeks. Has your daughters eating habits gone back to normal?
