Lip tie and gappy front teeth

20mo DD has had a gap in between her front teeth since they came through, I was assured by many people that this is normal and would probably close up when her other teeth came through so didn't worry about it. I took her to the dentist for the first time the other day and the dentist said "Oh she has an attachment, a lip tie, if it causes any problems later on we'll have a look at it". I didn't really question it then as I was also having a check up and trying to keep DD happy but now I'm worrying.

Has anyone had experience of this? What was the outcome? Did it need to be snipped in order to close the gap?

I've got friends who've said they had it snipped after their adult teeth came through and then had to have braces. What I'm thinking is, if it would need to be removed in order to close the gap then would doing it before her adult teeth come through mean they'd come through without a gap and therefore no braces necessary? Or would there be a gap regardless?

I can't really answer your questions but will be interested in any answers as dd has a lip tie. The small gap she had has closed up though. I did here that most children end up with them breaking away when they fall or something anyway.

Ds has one too but he has no teeth yet

dd is 4 years old and has a liptie and a gap in her teeth. Dentist said sometimes permanent teeth come in fine, some times braces are needed to correct the issue and sometimes if needed they will clip it. Pediatrician said, when she was a baby, as long as she's nursing fine and gaining weight they leave it be. Youngest baby also has a lip tie and the pedi said the same as my oldest's said (we've moved since she was tiny) --as long as she's nursing okay and gaining weight as she should be, they do nothing. So, 2 of my 3 girls will gave gaps in their front teeth until braces, most likely.

Dd1 (11) has a lip tie and has started wearing braces. I have been told she might need it snipping in the future.

Dd2 (3) has a big lip tie and I recently noticed that there is actually a gap between her teeth and gum and the lip ties in the middle. I looked this up and I think it's called muscle frenum - does anyone have experience of this? From what I understand, the gum will need surgery to join before teeth can be brought together . I will be asking our dentist for advice when we next visit.

My DD 13mo has exactly the same thing- I only noticed a few weeks ago. I bfed her till about 2 weeks ago and we've never had any problems feeding at all. I work for a dental company and spoke to a couple of dentists about her lip tie. Consensus was it doesn't need snipping as they tend to break of their own accord. Only time it might need snipping is for orthodontic treatment so when she's a teenager. They don't advise it on little ones unless there are feeding issues. It can sometimes cause speech problems. Again I spoke to a friend who is a speech therapist and she said in 13 yrs she has only seen 3 cases of speech development issues due to a lip tie. So I'm just planning to leave it and hope it tears of its own accord.

My dd (9) has a lip tie, or prominent frenum and a big gap between her front teeth. One of her adult teeth took a while to break through the gum and the dentist thought she may need it snipped in order to encourage tooth through. However, it eventually erupted on it's own and the dentist has now said that although she may still need it snipped it's best to wait until canines are through as issue often resolves itself when this happens (and this would be when other teeth start moving and gap closes).
