Epaderm ointment "manufacturing issue"?

I picked up DS's repeat prescription for Epaderm ointment today, only to be given Epaderm cream (completely different) and told by the pharmacist that it was because there was a "manufacturing issue" with the ointment so my GP had obviously issued a prescription for the cream so that "at least I had something".

Has anyone else had this? The texture is so different - the ointment is really heavy duty and the cream nowhere near as much, I have no idea why it's comparable but the pharmacist was talking to me as if I was loopy so I left. It was the Co-op pharmacy rather than the one attached to the surgery, so I won't choose them again. Not really sure how I pick it up with my GP without making an appointment either!

Oh dear, we use copious amounts of epaderm here too, I picked up 2 x 500g pots mid week with no problem. The cream is nowhere near as good for my DD. Could you email Molyncke the manufacturer to ask them about the problem. Have you another pharmacy who might make enquiries for you. The other thing very similar to Epaderm is Hydromol. you could ring your surgery ask to speak to medicines manager and say you need it prescribed as problems with Epaderm. Good luck.

Hi, I work in a pharmacy, and unfortunatley this sort of thing happens all of the time, not just with creams/ointments, but all medication at some point or another. Suddenly we get told that there is a manufacturing problem, and nothing is sent to the wholesaler. Your best bet is to ring around to see if anyone has the ointment in stock. Not much help I know and feeling your frustration. We dont like it either. Good luck xx
