Reflux in 5 yo DD

DD (5) has just been diagnosed with reflux. She brings up food and drink at random times. She'll be sitting there "slooshing" her mouth and when asked what it is, says its "sick".

We're waiting for the doctor to find out which gaviscon she can take, so we can get a prescription. We also have to keep a food diary for the next few weeks to show the doctor at our next appointment.

Does anyone have experience of this? I thought it was quite old to be diagnosed.

DS1 didn't appear to have reflux as a baby, but when he was 5 he mentioned being sick in his mouth a lot and was diagnosed with reflux.

He also had undiagnosed tongue tie and when we got the tie revised, the reflux disappeared. He was swallowing down a lot of air with his food which was coming back up again and bringing his stomach contents with it.

I had suspected he had tongue tie when he was younger because we had some breastfeeding problems, but apart from that, his tongue looked completely normal until I learned what I was looking for. It was the back of his tongue which was restricted.

Ah, that's interesting. Who found the tongue tie? Was it the doctor or HV?

It was me, after much reading on the internet. Turns out he had anterior and posterior ties and an upper lip tie and a high palate.

The revision wasn't done properly at first, but it was enough to stop the reflux. We then subsequently got it revised properly.

I was poo pooed by the docs about the link between tongue tie and reflux, so had to pursue all this myself.

OK. Thank you for that. I bf'd DD without any problems, but will have a check in her mouth tonight. (I've already googled).

Thanks again!

Dd is 2 and still suffers with reflux - interestingly also had a tongue tie.

OK, have checked for tongue tie. She doesn't have it. I do though! I had a look under her tongue this morning and there was nothing there - thought, hmm, that doesn't look like my mouth, checked in the mirror and I have a tongue tie, sob!!!
