GP or wait a day or two - poss chest infection?

Anyone got experience of chest infections pls?

DD has had a cough for over 2 weeks, started off as dry, then a bit chesty, then dry again. Didn't do anything about it as was definitely getting better.

Friday her temp was higher than usual (37.5) raising to 37.8 on Sat. Yesterday she was snotty (clear) & temp was up to 38 then rose to 39 at night.

Her cough is now chesty, she is pale, off her food a bit & green thick snotty nose. She is not coughing loads but when she does it's chesty/a bit phlegmy although can't see if she's bringing anything up. Her temp is still 39 coming down to 38 with calpol. Happy enough otherwise.

Do I leave it til tomorrow or do you think it could be a chest infection that needs to be dealt with today? Have checked her ribs - skin doesn't seem to be pulling. Might be a bit more out of breath than usual but not much & could just be bec she's breathing through her mouth..?

Thanks. In my mind it feels like a 'new' cold/cough that came at the end of the other but it went from clear (yest) to green snot very quickly...

and her voice is a bit croaky.

Put your ear to her chest and listen thoroughly front/back/left/right/top/bottom. If you can hear wheeze, and/or squeak get down straight away. You don't play around with chest infections.

If it's not squeaky or wheezy then wait until tomorrow and get her checked just in case. SOmetimes you can't hear it yourself.

If you're ever in any doubt, call NHS direct on 0845 46 47. They can give professional advice on where you should go for your DD to be treated.

I'm not being deliberately scaremongery (?word) but I've had v bad pneumonia (in ITU) twice and each time my chest sounded clear apparently - so don't rely on that OP!

Thank you both. She is much better today, temp almost back to normal, sneezing, snotty and coughing every now and again but am no longer worried. Thank you
