chicken pox or flea bites??

We noticed about 15 spots on 5yo ds at about 5pm yesterday, mostly on his torso but some on his legs too. They look a bit like flea bites. We checked him again this morning and there doesn't appear to be any more spots so far.

If it's chicken pox would more spots have cropped up over night or is it a slower process?

Sounds like chicken pox to me - appears on torso first. Some only get in mildly, so he might not get 100s of spots. But take him to your GP or nurse to get checked out.

Flea bites tend to be were clothing has been tight - waistbands, sock elastic etc.

I'll keep an eye on how they develop, there's no sign of them tuning into fluidy blisters yet.

Is it a good idea taking him to the gp? I don't want to risk spreading it about, he's already been in close contact with a newborn the day before the spots appeared so feel massively guilty about that.

You can ring your GP and ask if they need to see him. It he does have it mildly it's quite useful to have it diagnosed, otherwise you'll end up never being sure whether he's had it or not.

Newborn should be fine - will have mum's imunity for first few months of life. And not your fault anyway, as you can't tell when they're about to come down with it.

Looks like it's definitely chicken pox, his spots are now fluid filled spots.

My 2yr DD has about 12 spots on her torso- again they just seem little red things at present, but she's been sniffly and coughing all weekend and very irritable. She's just fallen asleep on me (rare). Was wondering if I should take her to GP or not...
