I've just been to collect my dc's inhalers, I went to a different Pharmacy to normal, and was informed that the Qvar my 4 year old and 6 year old have been on isn't licensed for under 12's! the pharmacist phoned my doctors and got the prescription changed to Clenil. Thought I'd just check if anyone else's under 12 has been wrongly prescribed Qvar.

When DS was on a brown inhaler it was clenil.

He is now on a different inhaler which isn't licenced for under 4s but he was started on at 2 because clenil didn't work for him

DS2 is on clenil. So is DS1 (but he's 12 so that doesn't matter).

My YD is on clenil. Nice that your pharmacist is on the ball: so many just dole out whatever is on the form!

...it is the same active ingredient: may be just the metered dose is different?

I've now made an appointment to see our Gp, as for some reason my kids asthma symptoms are basically the same, but my 6 year old has been given Clenil 50 2 puffs twice a day and my 4 year old Clenil 100 1 puff twice a day? I'm thinking that the 50 is more appropriate for a little one incase a gradual increase of dose is needed?

They are both having the same amount. Just one is having 2 puffs the other 1

Clenil 50 here for DS1 and DD2.

Do go and chat to your GP though because Qvar and Clenil are completely different preparations and therefore making a direct swap based on numbers is not OK - the steroid particles in the qvar are smaller so the same number is actually stronger. An idiot ill-informed GP changed me from Qvar 100 (which I was on because my asthma was moderate-severe and I'd also had big problems with oral thrush) to Becotide 100 because it was cheaper and - he thought - the same. 3 months of worsening symptoms and a massive attack later and another GP clocked what had happened.
