Over the last 3 wk my 2yr old has caught chickenpox, is it possible for the virus to be caught twice as she had cleared up very well but as of last night she is totally covered again? Also does anyone know if its possible to have young children's tonsils out???? she has suffered with them three times in three months!

Friends daughter had chicken pox twice. The first time it was very mild so they think it wasn't enough to build up any immunity

You can only catch chicken pox once. If the virus is reactivated it's shingles

dikkertjedap · 24/02/2013 17:41

Indeed, you can catch chickenpox (i.e. with all the spots, fever etc.) more than once. Usually, it will each time be slightly milder, but not always.

thanks, yeah her first time was mild but now there everywhere. It's defo chickenpox again but its in places she never had them.

I've had chickenpox twice, first time was very mildly so I obviously didn't build up the resistance

also is there anything i can try to do to prevent them going into the eye? as she has them all around them!

I've had it twice. First time I was covered, the second not so bad. Oh, and it was definitely chickenpox, not shingles!

insanityscratching · 24/02/2013 17:48

Dd had them twice the first time mild and the second time a full on dose. She has been in contact with CP since but seems now to be immune (fingers crossed)

I have had it twice. Once as a child and once more recently as an adult. Funnily enough I had a blood test about 6 months before I caught it the second time and was immune. I was really run down at the time and I think my immune systrem was just not working at the time. After this experience I have chatted to several people who has it twice, there is some talk about different strains but I don't know how likely that is.

My DS2 had his tonsils out at 2.5yrs - was for sleep apnoea though, is still common to take them out for that.

You need a referral to and ENT consultant if you are at all concerned - only way it will happen.
