My children came home with a letter saying 2 children are ill in hospital with strep a . They are from the their school. They have said impetigo is also part of strep A. Now my daughter had friends over to play and her daughter has impetigo :-/ now my baby has a 3 little white head type spots on her old chicken pox scar and I'm really worried its impetigo as that's how it starts.

If you haven't already done so, it is best to get it checked out by OOH doctor as impetigo is treated with antibiotic cream and should not be left to go unchecked especially not in a baby.

Strep A causing severe illness is a very rare thing so try not to panic. Best to get your DD checked though given that in this circumstance there may be a rarer strain involved to have hospitalised two children - be sure to let the GP know that when you speak with them.

Strep A is a very common bug and responsible for many cases of tonsillitis and impetigo. Virtually none of these become serious in the longer term.

Thank you , GP doesn't believe it to be impetigo . My 5 yr old is just getting over tonsilitus. A parent also died from it last week so as you can imagine everyone is in shock and also worried.

Strep A is only dangerous if it gets into the blood stream for example through chicken pox spots. My youngest had a Strep A skin infection for over a year (if not much longer) before the GP finally diagnosed it - they kept telling me it was thrush/nappy rash Angry thankfully she was already taking antibiotics for it when she contract chicken pox.

Yes, I have first hand experience of bad strep sadly. dd was in intensive care with it but thankfully here to tell the tale.
