DD cant skip :/

my 5yr old dd cannot skip no matter how much she is taught Hmm all the family and her school friends have tried to teach her how to but she still cannot do it Hmm

when she was little we couldn't get boots to fit her ankles, i remember going to a shop and the shop assistant told us he's pretty sure wherever we go boots will not fit her ankles. we tried everywhere and he was right Hmm

the only other problem with her walking is she regularly falls down, but other than that she seems fine.

Am i to be worried?
should i get her checked out?

My DD (4.9) can't skip, jump or ride a bike yet either. I'm not worried it'll come with time Smile

There's quite a lot of 5 year olds who can't skip, or ride a bike.

What's the issue with the ankles?

willoughboobs · 11/02/2013 18:58

thank you thats made me feel a lot better, i was getting worried because she is behind with this stuff compared to her school friends.

her ankles bend inwards and we can only get certain shoes to fit her, even then the shoes are bent inwards after a couple of times of use.

Do you mean skip with a rope or skipping along?

GrimmaTheNome · 11/02/2013 19:02

Might be worth getting checked then - she might need her shoes 'building up' or inserts. (My ankles did that, though I can't remember it causing me any problems with walking, cycling or boots)

willoughboobs · 11/02/2013 19:10

just skipping along.

Could you get her assessed by a children's physio?

dikkertjedap · 11/02/2013 19:53

I think that it would be wise to get her checked out. Not because of her inability to skip or riding a bike but because you say she regularly falls whilst walking.

colleysmill · 11/02/2013 19:58

Ok I would second breath's suggestion and ask for a referral to get your dd properly assessed by a children's physio.

It's hard trying to pinpoint it over the internet but to be able to skip you need to be able to hop. And to hop you need to be able to balance on one leg - but if her ankles are going in you might find she finds this difficult (which would also maybe tie in with her falling frequently).

A physio would be able to assess whether her ankles are significant in this and assess her skill level for her age. They might say not to worry but it won't harm to have it checked over.

She needs to be assessed by a physio ask go to refer to community physio. Or se a podiatrist about special boots. If it.s just this physical issue it won't be a it deal . Is she very flexible ?
