Worms - trying alternative solutions?

Got two thumb suckers and battling with these blighters, doing all the routine hygiene recommendations, don't think that the standard pills sold in chemist are much cop. Seem a bit hit and miss as to whether or not they work, cost a fortune and am starting to feel bad about the number I have shoved down my children in last 6 weeks. Has anyone tried Diatomic Earth to treat these, and is it safe for Children? There are several sites raving about its general health benefits and effectiveness against worms, but would be good to have a recommendation from someone not trying to make money out of selling me the stuff. And same question re Vitaklenz (very expensive but If I know it really does what it says on the tin, I will bite the bullet).

What I do sometimes is put a large lump of sudocrem on the anus. That soothes the itchy feeling and stops the worms getting through to lay their eggs. Seems to work fine. They just need to change pants in the morning, as it's then greasy where the cream was.

I've always found the tablets work, although it often takes 48 hours or occasionally slightly more before the last ones go.

Thanks for the tip. I had read something similar on the net but am worried about my 6 1/2 year old remembering when he is older and thinking I was weird.
