Temp of 38.2. School tomorrow?

DD (7 years) has had a temp of no less than 38 everyday since Saturday and has been off school all week. This bug MUST be on its way out, surely.

Do you always keep your DC off school the next day with a temp like this the day before?

Afraid I would definitely keep her off. You can't send her back just because you think the bug has lasted too long already. How is she apart from the temp.?

She's in quite good spirits, considering. Obviously not herself - a quieter version of her. She sat on the sofa pretty much all day watching every episode of Mr. Bean ever made.

chesty cough, snotty, sneezing, mildly lethargic with occasional short lived bursts of activity, no appetite.

High temp=no school to me, because her body is fighting an infection and it has more chance of winning faster, without antibiotics if you take a little extra care.
Quite apart from not sharing it with everyone else!

Is it not coming below 38 with medication? If not wht is it before the meds?

She might have a chest infection.

Given she's lethargic and not eating I'd definitely keep her off . I have sent ds with a temp o 38 before but he was post viral and spiking temps whilst otherwise being 100% fine.

Seeker- really? Your the reason my dd repeatedly catches these bugs and misses more school than she has to then!
A fever of 38.2 obviously indicates some type of illness so why would you send your child to school spread it? Plus if I had a fever I would feel pretty damn awful, I'm not sure why you want wan to inflict going to school while feeling unwell on your child.

Keep her off! And seeker: I am stunned. It must be thanks to people like you that DS almost needed an operation ( under GA) and I almost ended up in hospital at 30 weeks' pregnant last year: repeated nasty bugs from nursery.

If a child feels ill, they should be off school, whether they have a raised temperature or not.

It is perfectly possible to be ill and infectious without a temperature.

Go by the child, not the thermometer.

But the child in question DOES have a temperature.. That is the issue!

Keep her off I think. A day pushing herself, rather than resting, could put her recovery back.
