What can I do?

My 17 year old DS has been fighting an aggressive malignant brain tumour for the last 14 months. It has been horrific for him and all the family

over the course of his treatment, surgery, high dose chemo, high dose radiotherapy and maintenance chemo his life has been saved numerous times by the generous gift of strangers - their blood. Friends and family ask what can they do to help? I ask them if they could donate blood. My son has had numerous blood and platelet transfusions which have saved his life and given him time to fight this cancer.

If you visit this section of the forum you will know that there are a number of parents here with children going through the living hell of cancer. I know many people feel helpless and want to do something.

Giving blood is easy and does not cost anything. If you do decide to give blood please can you ask about platelet donation at the same time (procedure is slightly longer but not everyone can donate).

It saves lives, my sons life has been saved numerous times with transfusions.

So a big heartfelt thank you to anyone who does already donate and to those who may be considering to do so.

What a lovely post - I'm unable to donate at the moment due to anaemia but will do so as soon as possible.

I hope your son is doing ok.
