Ds2 - Giant lump on forehead

Just collected ds2, aged 9, from school. He slipped off his chair and bumped the front of his head, fortunately on his fringe, on the desk. He has sat under an ice pack for 20 mins until I got there, his vision is fine, he doesn't feel dizzy or sick - in fact is really hungry and is tucking into his packed lunch! Howeverm, the lump is huuuuuge - far bigger than a 50p piece - and is going greeny white surrounded by purple. I don't need to get hin to the GP do I, unless he exhibits signs of concussion. It is only a soectacular lump, isn't it?

From what I remember, if the bump is hard and not soft then it should be ok. Also check he can remember something that happened before the bump and something after it, also check no bleeding from ears, nose etc. If all that's ok then it's prob fine (that's what I was told when DD had a huge bump on her head).

My dd tripped and fell landing forehead first and got the most unbelievable lump. I rang OOHs and they went through a list with me

Did s/he lose consciousness?
Does he know where and who he is?
Any sleepiness or nausea?
Any bleeding from ears/eyes/nose/mouth

I'm sure there were more things too.

Anyway according to the list everything was fine and we were told not to bring her in but I was sorry afterwards because I spent ages fretting about it.

If you feel worried then maybe having him checked out would be a good idea.

Thanks Ladies. Bump now subsided spectacularly. He's going to have a fabulous bruise, but is none the worse for wear. Will keep an eye on him, of course, but he seems fine.
