Just pulled a small object out of DS's (2yo) nose...

...have no idea what it is or how long it's been up there, but it explains the incessant nose picking over the last couple of days. It's a small pink disc, looks like a bit of a sweet or chalk maybe

He seems fine, but do I need to rush him to ooo docs or A&E to check if he's hidden any other treasures up there, or will it be OK for me to take him to the docs on Monday?

DH has the car and out until late, just tried to ring NHS Direct but they have a message saying they're only dealing with urgent cases and I don't think it is? Gah!

Anyone?

I would say doctor on Monday is fine. My dd put something up her nose at age 3 and we went to a and e and the nurse told me how to basically blow it out by covering her mouth and squeeze the other nostril and it flew out. No lasting effects in that case. Do you think there is anything else in there?

Thanks IHeartIona. The piece that came out seems in one piece, whatever it is, and I can't see anything else up there. Just worried in case he's been shoving loads of things up there!

Hope he's fine.. It's a worry isn't it? 18mo DS stuck a raisin up his last week. Took him to A andE and the eat, throat and nose hospital (referred there by A andE) and they couldn't see anything. So not sure if its still up there it he swallowed it.. We have to see if it starts rotting... They keep you on your toes..

Thanks both - he seems OK today. I feel guilty as I had no idea he'd even shoved something up there! It was only because he was having a tantrum and a snort dislodged it that I spotted it - must have really been bugging him!!

Going to phone the docs tomorrow for advice - normal amount of nose picking (i.e. still a lot as he's a toddler but not quite as bad!) has resumed today.

Oh and random object we've identified as a small bit of foam type craft stuff - I suspect from the toddler group his childminder takes him to. Wondering whether to frame keep it for posterity...

Mine does this. Sweetcorn in the summer and the other day, a lemon pip which was up there 24 hours before it flew out during a massive tantrum. The covering one nostril and blowing into the mouth technique is a good one - anything that's up there will shoot out.

The Drs said to watch for bad breath or any smell from his nose. He may also start getting a really irritated nose and mucus from one nostril.. Yuk..! We haven't noticed anything so far so I hope that means he has swallowed it...!

Oh, and he's completely fine. It's just mummy that freaked out a bit when it happened. He did it right in front of me. I was sitting at the table with him when he put it just at the entrance of his nostril.. I got up ... Calmly... To see if I could dislodge it and he did a massive suck in and sucked it right in...! Lots of crying for a minute or so and then fine ever since. Had a great time at AandE and the ear nose and throat place too..!

Ahh I'm hoping he'll have learnt his lesson and not do it again - or is that wishful thinking?

Took him to the docs earlier this week and the nurse had a look, she said it looked a little sore but no sign of anything else.
