Chicken pox twice in 3 weeks?

I'm baffled! My two dc's aged 4 and 1 had a very mild dose of chicken pox 3 weeks ago. Now both are suffering flu like symptoms and are covered in many many spots which doctor today confirms are chicken pox. This time round it is much more severe than 3 weeks ago. In between the first round of spots had completely healed over. The doctor I saw today insisted it was impossible for them to contract it twice in such a short period and suggested the first batch was not actually c.pox. But both bouts have been confirmed by a GP.

Anyone else experienced this? One of those situations when mums know more than GP's??

My friends kids had the same thing - I think she was told the second time round it was shingles not chickenpox but I could be wrong.

Poor you and them though, not nice at all. Hmm
