How long would you be able to test for Glandular Fever for?

DD was very poorly over Christmas - the GP thinks she might have had Glandular Fever & has done blood tests

Would there still be 'evidence' in her blood this long afterwards?

I reckon they'll be testing for antibodies and afaik they will be in the blood for life. I'm not positive in this though as I imagine this test wouldn't be definitive that shed jut had GF just that she'd had it at some point if they were present? I'm pretty sure it lasts in saliva for a year so wouldn't be surprised if there are other indicators in the blood.

I had GF in my first year at Uni - I was very ill because I also had tonsillitis at the same time which made things worse - I was properly ill for 2 weeks then went back to Uni but got tired easily etc.

I was told the test often gives a false negative. My dd wasn't tested for about 3 months after symptoms started & was a negative result but was told that doesn't mean she didn't have it.

Quite a while I believe. My SIL had some liver problems and they thought he had something wrong with his liver. Tests revealed that 6 months before he had had glandular ferev though he was in aware.

It's easy to get a false negative with Glandular Fever. My ds friend got it in September and I dont think he got a positive test until December.

That makes a lot of sense I was tested about 5 times over 2 years when I was a teenager (& never got a positive)

DS got a negative result but doctor said he'd had it. Often gives a false negative apparently.

Apparently there's various strains of GF but the blood test only tests for one. Not sure why.

I was tested about 3 months after I started symptoms and got a strong result. About a year later I still was testing positive. They wouldn't let me give blood.

It is really isn't it. In my gp's defence he did say before the test was done that it wasn't that reliable. Dd was only tested when it had gone on so long that gf needed to be ruled out along with some scary things.
